MY PROCESS

The process for approaching a new project, whether it is a new urban farm build, a retrofit, or a consult, involves an entire ecosystem approach. In order for a project to be sustainable to succeed in the long term, just like a successful business, requires a strong vision to be supported by diligent execution and buy-in among all stakeholders. I will piece together the hardware, software and heartware requirements in order to build a robust and long lasting project.

With an eclectic mind: the systems thinking approach of an Aerospace Engineer, the taste buds of a Chef, the respect for nature of a Farmer, and the business acumen of an Entrepreneur, I have combined all of my skills and expertise to help any individual, or organisation reach their goals of cultivating food for greater meaning beyond consumption.

  • The first step is understanding the user and stakeholders goals, objectives and context. This is done through a hybrid method of questionnaires and interviews.

  • A holistic approach is taken combining science-backed methods such as using sensors to analyse the physical site conditions, as well as considering ground to management user relationship dynamics. This allows us to get the full picture of the situation and define the problem statement better.

  • A multi-faceted recommendation may include the following:

    • Concept drawing

    • Final drawing

    • Technical plan: Irrigation and lighting plan

    • Maintenance plan

    • Estimated budget required

    • Programme breakdown

  • Co-creation: Co-designing the final output with the stakeholders, getting their ownership and buy-in.

Build: Building the physical project with the help of partners.

Maintenance: Providing regular support to ensure a successful maintenance plan.

Programmes: Activating programmes to ensure continued engagement with users.

  • Chris has an extensive knowledge of running an urban farm and was eager to share his wisdom with me during our meeting. He has lots of great advice and tips for specifically working with restaurants and how to build and maximize those relationships. • Christopher is a passionate and dedicated educator committed to making a difference in the world. Christopher has also provided invaluable advice to us in the set up and operations of Corridor Farmers. He has a wealth of knowledge and experience, and he is always willing to share his knowledge with others. Chris is a valuable asset to the community, and I am confident that he would be an excellent person to work with and entrusted with any task. I highly recommend him for his service.

    — Roc, Founder of Corridor Farmers, Singapore | Consulting

  • My husband and I are gardening beginners and engaged Chris to conceptualise and build an edible garden out of an empty narrow strip of soil.

Chris made magic happen and completely transformed that plain space into a beautiful and inviting edible garden - all by himself and ahead of schedule. We were very impressed by his commitment to this project and what he delivered exceeded our expectations.

Most of all, my family really enjoyed working with him and we could feel his sincerity and passion in his work. We hope to continue to work with Chris to improve our garden over time and will recommend him wholeheartedly!

    — Joyce | Urban Farm Projects

  • The workshop was interesting, hands on and fun. Chris is an inspiration as he is the true embodiment of the 'Urban Farmer'. He shares perspectives and techniques that are applicable and 'do-able' in the Singaporean context for every level you might want to be. Looking forward to the next instalment!

    — William | Workshops

  • In the ‘Freestyle’ Edible garden workshop, Chris shared invaluable tips that were perfect for a novice home gardener like me. He condensed his years of experience into bite-sized knowledge that was contextualised not just to Singapore’s climate but also the type of uniquely Singaporean housing that we have. Even though I attended the course alone, the friendly camaraderie among Chris and the other participants made me feel right at home.

    — Lingyi

  • I met Chris serendipitously while on my journey to kickstart an edible garden from scratch, and what a blessing it has been! His knowledge does not extend merely to plants, but to every nitty gritty detail — from assessing the space and planning out logistics, to communicating with fellow stakeholders, to projecting potential future steps. As someone with a holistic, practical, and farsighted approach, he truly provides the best advice for specific needs and circumstances. He’s been a fantastic mentor and an even better friend, reminding me of the beauty of tending to a garden and the wild and wonderful journey it can be.
